Norwich Report 4th March 2022

Well Norwich what can I say it was great meeting up with all the usual suspect, of course I walk into the hotel and promptly call into the bar, did not see my room for a couple of hours and that was for a quick wash and brush up.

And then off to Norwich to meet up with a few likeminded drinkers, great evening was had by all.

I digress to the event, this was a committee run event, and with a twist, we were playing Diamond Trios. Now for the less intelligent of us this includes me I will explain, here we go:

Diamond Trios (based on 12 teams);

Bowler 1 plays 2 x games at singles pace.

Bowler 1 & 2 plays 2 x games at doubles pace.

Bowlers 1, 2 & 3 plays 2 x games at trio’s pace.

Bowlers 2 & 3 plays 2 x games at doubles pace.

Bowler 3 plays 2 x games at singles pace.

Top 8 x teams qualify for the finals.

Remaining teams qualify for the plate.

OK now for the plate and Baker format

So, bowler one: Bowler frame 1,4,7 and 10 and each of the other bowlers fill in the rest get it, no well it took a bit of time but every one figured it out in the end. See below

4 x teams that do not qualify for the final will bowl 3 x further games in a baker format with each bowler rotating position in each game to ensure all bowlers bowl in the 10th frame. Team with the top 3 x game baker total will be the winner.

And as you can see it gets even more strange towards the end  

Round Robin Baker Finals;

Top 8 teams qualify and will be seeded into 2 x groups of 4 x teams;

Group A will consist of the teams finishing in 1st, 3rd, 5th & 7th.

Group B will consist of the teams finishing in 2nd, 4th, 6th & 8th.

Within each group, teams will play each other in a 1 x game round robin baker match, with each bowler rotating position in each game to ensure all bowlers bowl the 10th frame.

Teams will score 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

The team scoring the most points in each group will progress to the grand finale.

So, the day its self the bowling centre which was next door to my hotel(winner) was great, the staff welcoming and so begins the normal meeting and greeting catching up with every one, we had one casualty and the most important Mr Scott tested positive for covid that morning, so was isolating

Which was a shame as he had all the raffle prizes, get well soon.

For most of the teams bowling it was a blast from the past we were bowling on wooden lanes, which is should we say challenging when you, are used to playing on synthetic lanes, so here we go. Scoring was consistent, a few including me having to move around the lane a little but bowling was great, very few breakdowns, and help from the staff.

So to the scoring.
