Election of Officers

Unfortunately Simon Webb has had to resign from his post of Chairperson due to work/family commitments. He was thanked by the members for the work he had done this last year. Daniel Meaton was proposed as chairperson by Eric Von Tersch and seconded by Jim Kenny to take on the post, he was voted unanimously. No other nominations proposed. The Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer all agreed to stay in their posts for another year and were voted in enbloc. No other nominations proposed.

The four required Committee members of Clive Knowles, Alan Hanafin, Dee Wilson and Pat Broom were proposed and voted in enbloc by those members present. No other nominations for the posts were proposed.

  • Club Captain

James Kenny was proposed for the position by Julie Eason seconded by Daniel Meaton. No other nominations proposed.

  • Associate Members.

It was agreed that Harry Greengrass be accepted as an associate member (previously being a very special constable, just retired, it was thought he was entitled to all membership entitlements as long as he was still paying into the MPAA Lottery) But Jon Greengrass suggested that he was only looking to play in the domestic calendar. This was agreed by those present.

Secretaries Report

My first year as Club secretary has gone very quickly. I have hopefully been able to provide the section with the service of previous secretaries and I can tell you it does throw up its challenges. Arranging the teams for national events being one of them! As usual the Met Bowling Club has done us proud and achieved success in all areas of the National Events and PSUK games.

Our membership as usual has been fluid with Ken Francis moving to the West County, but we have gained Simon Odong into the fold. This is an area we need to look at if we are to maintain a successful section and flourish.

The situation for the serving officers with limited time off and police staff early departure pending the next twelve months will be crucial to the section.

At HQ there are changes of staff that affect us as a section. That being finance. Brian Turrell is taking early departure and he will be gone by June. Dan Elderton is taking over from him and I am sure we wish them both all the best for the future. Eric will be building up a relationship with Dan to ensure he understands our needs in this financial season so we are able to enjoy the level of interest and success within the section

We have officers attending the WPFG in Belfast later in the year and wish them the best of luck anticipating them returning with a haul of medals as in previous years.

I would like to thank Eric Von Tersch, Daniel Meaton and Barry Eason for the support they have given me this year. Eric has taken a load off my mind with the regard to finances and Daniel has been an excellent club captain getting actively involved and generally being enthusiastic when he has been at tournaments. Barry has also been helpful with the website and general scoring/organisation.

Looking forward we must try to encourage new members and seek out new centres as and when the opportunities arise. Bowling in general is going through a decline and although we are a reasonably healthy section some of the turnouts have been lower than we would have wished. This is due to the commitments of the players involved, but we are seeing some slip away. We must try to come up with some ideas to reverse this trend.

Notable achievements this year include Chloe Bruton OOM ladies champion, Alan Hanafin and Geoff Mitchell second and third respectively in the men’s section. Both team scratch and HC going to the Met as well. Mark Evans being placed in the semi-finals of the Singles. The MPAA scratch singles going to Jon Greengrass, The HC section to Daniel Meaton. Alan Hanafin won the Ledner, Jon Greengrass and Ken Francis the Doubles. Overall winner of the Martin Evans trophy was Daniel Meaton.

Treasurers Report

Eric Von Tersch produced the treasurer’s report for the year. He remarked that the future funding has now made it more difficult for us to ejoy the certainty of pervious years that our submissions will be met in full. Eric Von Tersch said he would be engaging the finance to clarify the position further. The accounts would be passed to the MPAA as in previous years for scrutiny.

Proposed James Kenny       Seconded Clive Knowles

  • MPAA Colours

Dee Wilson was nominated as it was felt she was worthy this year for the award due to her commitment and success at previous WPFG.

Proposed Eric Von Tersch                 Seconded Jon Greengrass

AOB

  • Dominic Disbury Singles

It was suggested by Daniel Meaton that next years Dominic Disbury singles should have a different format from singles. His suggestion was to have a joint competition. The format suggested was that it is played at doubles format, but your first three games count as singles. The meeting decided to consider this option and consider a different format from this year (singles) and make a decision nearer to the date next year. Agreed by those present.

  • WPFG

This July we have 4 officers representing Tenpin Bowling it was decided that as in previous years the club would give each player a contribution toward expenses for the tournament. Each player will receive £100 on return from the event providing they are eligible under our club rules.

Proposed Jon Greengrass  Seconded Clive Knowles

  • Brian Terrell - Retirement

It was decided that we should send a card to Brian thanking him for his hard work and efforts for the club over the years and wish him a happy retirement.

  • National Trophies

It was agreed that we bring up the standard of trophies at the next BPTBA AGM, with a proposal we all use the same supplier.

  • MPAA National Tournament Friday 7th Feb 2014

It was decided to stay at Tolworth next year for our National Event due the feedback and response from other forces from this year’s. Secretary to liaise with Tolworth Bowl and arrange the booking. It was agreed that we look to provide a different food option as well. Agreed by those present

  • MPAA National Event Raffle

It was agreed that the raffle, as it was not now going to have a subsidy from the MPAA would have to be subsidised by the members. It was agreed to go back to the previous format and each member to contribute. The treasurer would consider the amount prior to the event. Agreed by those present

  • Honorarium

The honorarium of officers was discussed and decided by the members present that this should continue. This was agreed providing the MPAA are do not raise any objections or queries.
