2019 TOURNAMENT

 

Collier Road 2019

Welcome so a new decade, for the police national tournament and a return by the Metropolitan Police to Collier Row,

As you would guess it was a full complement of teams, in total 14.

I would like to thank the centre for all the help and the smooth, running of the day, no problems and no breakdowns, a number of people (well only west Yorkshire) did not like the oil pattern, but that did not reflect in their scores. And the oil pattern was changed for the team event.

I would also like to thank the Romford mix, who helped make up the numbers great bowling from them.

The tournament saw some very high scoring and a multitude of 200 games Adam Blyth from West Yorkshire set the tone with 220,214,176 to take the scratch singles from will Line 211,197,195 (610 to 603).

There were a number of bowlers who bowled over 600 in the singles Dominic Bailey

took the handicap singles from Steve Chatburn 667- 653. The ladies handicap singles were won by Sarah Magro with 666.

The scratch doubles saw Tom Walsh and Tim Baxter win with a 1200 over Alan Hanafin and Jon Greengrass 1111 The handicap event went to Lee Franklin and Frank Manfield from Dominic Baily and Geoff Mitchell 1474 -1417.

The team Scratch event saw West Yorkshire win 2433 to the mixed team of Lincs and Suffolk 2195. The handicap team was won by Sussex Martlets from a combined team of Sussex martins and Kent 2712 - 2681.

The all events were won by Rowan Hesse 1860 from Tom Walsh 1815 and Will Line 1799. The female all events was won by Jo Green 1568 from Sarah Magro 1465 and Pat Thomas 1442.

Hertfordshire​ 2018 TOURNAMENT

Will Line almost carried on from where he left off last year, but was beaten to the singles title on countback by Ian Forshaw, both rolling a 639 series but Ian had the higher last game of 245-223. The handicap singles was won by Clive Knowles from team mate Dan Meaton, 648 -641. The ladies handicap singles was won by Jo Green from Ann DeSilva 643-582. The scratch doubles was won by Will Line/ Paul Roberts - Sussex form Alan Hanafin / Jon Greengrass - Metropolitan 1211-1197. The handicap doubles was won by Dominic Scarff and Clive Harrison - Gloucestershire from Mick Forbes / Roger Smith - Sussex 1298-1282.

The team event was won by the Met from Sussex 2326-2183. The handicap team event was won by the combined Gloucestershire / West Mids from Thames Valley 2461-2413.

The male all events was won by Will Line from Alan Hanafin 1844-1809. Pat Thomas took the female all events from Jo Green 1622-1539

 

2018 TOURNAMENT

 

Lincolnshire 2018

This was the 1st tournament to be held at Grantham and the overall consensus was that it was very enjoyable and we would be happy to return.

The scratch singles were win by Michael Cummings from Mark Scott 691 -621. The handicap singles were won by Paul Roberts, Sussex from Paul Challenger West York’s 698 -675. The ladies handicap singles were won by Pat Thomas from Nicola Harrison 710-683.

The scratch doubles saw West Yorkshire dominate with John Westgarth and Steve Foster winning with 1242 from Tom Walsh and Mike Cummings 1218. The handicap doubles went to the Met team of Dan Meaton and Clive Knowles 1339 close behind was the combined MET/NFK pairing of Dan Woods and Cliff Cox with 1333.

The scratch team was won by West York’s team of Tom Walsh, Mike Cummings, John Westgarth and Steve Foster with 2227 with Sussex - Will Line, Roger Smith, Paul Roberts and Suzanne Petitt runners up with 2147. The handicap team winners were a combined Northants/Warwick team of Kevin Knight, Steve Chatburn, Stuart Kilpatrick and Eddie Gray with 2594 from West Yorkshire Stu Patterson, Paul Challenger, John Greathead and Angela O’Connor with 2504.

Mike Cummings easily took the all events form Mark Scott 1869 - 1759, Pat Thomas took the female all events from Charlene Parsons 1600 - 1532

 

Stroud 2018

 

The 3rd tournament of the year was a committee run affair held at Stroud after a vote by members. Jo Green from Kent returned after a number of years absent through politics and injury.

The scratch singles were won by Tom Walsh with 617 from Al Hanafin 610. Steve Hutchings took the handicap from Eddie Gray 676-673. Jo Green took the ladies handicap singles with 656 from Ann DeSilva.

The scratch doubles were won by Jon Greengrass and Al Hanafin with 1226 from their team mates Jim Kenny and Dan Meaton 1192. The handicap doubles were a West York’s / Kent team of Stu Patterson and Jo Green winning with 1366 from Richard King (sub) and Jon Dymond - Sussex with 1303.

The scratch team event was easily won by the Met team of Jon Greengrass, Al Hanafin, Dan Meaton and Jim Kenny with 2416 from the West York’s / Kent team of Tom Walsh / Stu Patterson / Steve Foster and Jo Green 2196. The handicap team winners were another combined affair of Hertfordshire / Lincolnshire with Graham Leicester, Ian Forshaw from Lincs and Ann DeSilva and Bill Raynor from Herts scoring 2579, runners up saw another combined team Northants/Warwickshire, Kevin Knight (War), Steve Chatburn, Eddie Gray and Stuart Kilpatrick with 2406.

The male scratch all events was a close-run thing with Tom Walsh pipping Al Hanafin 1802 - 1799. Jo Green was more comfortable winning the ladies all events from Sarah Magro 1589 - 1320

 

2017 TOURNAMENT

Hertfordshire 2017 TOURNAMENT

 

The Hertfordshire tournament saw some very high scoring and a multitude of 200 games. Will Line from Sussex set the tone with 246,246,266 to take the scratch singles from Alex Nelson (203,275.223), 758 to 701. There were 7 bowlers who bowled over 600 in the singles. Ian Forshaw took the handicap singles from Brian Higgins 705- 699. The ladies handicap singles were won by Pat Thomas with 647.

The scratch doubles saw Will continue his high scoring with games of 246,278,247 - 771 and with Roger Smith bowling 558 including a middle game of 234. This was a 512 game one of the highest ever bowled in the double’s competition. They took the scratch from Tom Walsh / Michael Cummings -1329 - 1267. \The handicap event went to Paul Challenger and Steve Foster from Julie Eason and Ann DeSilva 1331 - 1327.

The team event scratch saw the usual 1-2 with West Yorkshire beating the Met 2495 - 2361. The handicap team was won by the combined team of Lincolnshire / West Midlands from Thames Valley 2600 - 2580.

The all events were won by Will Line 2129 from Michael Cummings 2080 and Tom Walsh 1846. The female all events was won by Pat Thomas 1467 from Ann DeSilva 1380 and Angela O’Connor 1376.
